The 15-minute soundcheck

Walk through what setup actually looks like at a new venue. No surprises.

    Open RenderWave. Load your saved show file. Shader bank, MIDI map, audio routing, output resolution all restore from the file.

  2. Minute 2-5

    Plug audio interface in. Route booth feed (record-out from DJM, Xone, or whatever's running) into channel 1. Verify the FFT meter lights up on a test track.

    Plug MIDI controller in. Mapping auto-restores. Tap a couple pads to verify LED feedback.

Will RenderWave run 8-hour sets reliably?

Yes. RenderWave is built on Swift and Metal 3 for Apple Silicon and runs as a native ARM64 app: no Rosetta translation, no MoltenVK overhead. It is designed to run all night without thermal drama. The Metal compute pipeline is deterministic; memory allocation happens at preset load, not per-frame, so there are no GC pauses or allocation spikes mid-set.

What happens if the renderer hits a bad state mid-set?

RenderWave runs a single deterministic Metal pipeline with show recovery; memory is allocated at preset load, not per-frame. If the renderer ever hits an unrecoverable state, the app restarts to the last loaded show config in under 5 seconds instead of dropping you to a system desktop. The 85 shaders that ship with the app are pre-validated, so you can't load a broken shader mid-set. Custom shaders are sandboxed.

What if my projector input fails mid-show?

RenderWave outputs simultaneously to direct HDMI and Syphon, so if your projector HDMI drops, the FOH team can re-route the venue's Syphon-aware receiver (most modern installs) without you touching the laptop. The app also auto-detects display reconnection: plug the HDMI back in and output resumes without restart.

Can I bring my own MIDI controller to a club booth?

Yes. RenderWave saves controller mappings per-show, so you load your show file and your APC40 or Launchpad mapping is already restored. New venues with unfamiliar gear: the MIDI learn flow takes about 60 seconds to remap a full bank. Mappings persist across app restarts and per-controller, so you can have separate mappings for your home rig and your travel rig.

Does it work with venue audio split?

Yes. Most club booths have a booth-monitor split or a dedicated record-out from the main mixer (Pioneer DJM-A9, DJM-V10, Allen & Heath Xone:96, all have it). Route that into any USB audio interface and RenderWave's FFT engine reads the actual room mix. If the venue can only give you a booth monitor feed, that works too; the audio engine is forgiving on signal level.
